  • You’ve probably heard of iconic Scandinavian composers Edvard Grieg, Jean Sibelius, and Carl Nielsen, but how many of their songs have you heard? Though among the most beautiful and coloristic works in the repertoire, songs by Scandinavian composers are less frequently represented on recitals in America. Guided by Dr. Alisa Jordheim, a Fulbright Scholar and Fellow of the American Scandinavian Foundation, we explore this stunning repertoire and introductory approaches to diction for performers.

  • This is a virtual event that will take place at 2PM Eastern Time. Can't watch live? Register anyway and receive a replay link to watch at your convenience!

Think of Song Connect as a small book club or study event. With intriguing topics for each session led by an expert guest leader, we will explore, converse, and listen to deepen our understanding of song, all while socializing and having a wonderful time together.

Free registration is required so we can send you helpful materials to enhance your experience, such as song scores, links for listening, and more. But don’t worry - if you can’t explore these resources before the event, it won’t hamper your ability to engage and enjoy!

  • In short, anyone! Whether you’re brand new to the world of song and want to learn more, or a seasoned fan of the genre interested in bonding with like-minded song enthusiasts, Song Connect events are for everyone.

Meet Your Host: Alisa Jordheim

Described as “vocally resplendent,” “powerful,” and possessing “impeccable coloratura” (San Francisco Chronicle), soprano Alisa Jordheim is praised for her compelling and vocally assured performances in opera, concert, musical theatre, new music, early music, and recital. A Fulbright Scholar and Fellow of the American Scandinavian Foundation, Ms. Jordheim studied and conducted research on singing diction in the Scandinavian languages at the University of Oslo in 2013-2014.
