The Lori Laitman & Bruce Rosenblum Fellowship

Born in Malaysia, pianist Tzu-Kuang Tan has performed as a song pianist and chamber musician in many venues throughout the United States, Singapore, Austria, and Malaysia. Performance highlights include a full song recital at the Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara 2023 with Joanne Evans and a special song experience concert with theatrical lighting Songs-Reimagined in Austin, Texas.

His awards include being the winner of the 2022 Marilyn Horne Song Competition, the 2021 Jacqueline Avent Concerto Competition, the 2018 Yong Siew Toh Conservatory Concerto Competition, and both the 2023 the 2022 Briggs Chamber Music Competition.

Not only appearing on the concert stage, he was an Assistant Coach and rehearsal pianist for the mainstage productions of Don Pasquale, Highway 1, and Rise up for Freedom at the University of Michigan. He was one of the rehearsal pianists for conductor Daniela Candillari for Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin at the Music Academy of the West. He currently coaches and works as a rehearsal pianist for operas for the Butler Opera Center at UT Austin for productions of La bohème, Tan Dun’s Tea: A Mirror of Spades and Tchaikovsky's Queen of Spades.

Currently, he is a student at the University of Texas Austin pursuing a Doctoral of Musical Arts. He has degrees from University of Michigan and the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory in Singapore. He is currently studying with Tamar Sanikidze. Previous teachers include Martin Katz, Amy I-Lin Cheng, and Albert Tiu.
