Recognized for her remarkable blend of “artistic sensitivity and masterful virtuosity,” Elizabeth Avery stands out as an accomplished collaborative pianist whose musical journey spans continents and genres. With a dynamic presence that has graced stages across the United States, Canada, Scandinavia, and Europe, Avery engages audiences through her compelling collaborative performances, engaging lecture-recitals, and inspiring masterclasses. 

Central to Avery's artistic agenda is her commitment to commissioning and premiering new song cycles, having brought new performances to such prestigious venues as Weill Recital Hall and Steinway Hall in New York City. Her passion for innovation is evident through her role as a catalyst for new music, where her focus on climate and social advocacy reverberates powerfully. These innovative commissions and premieres demonstrate her artistic vision that transcends mere performance, embracing the higher purpose of connecting music and humanity. As part of her research endeavors, she has paired with Quinn Patrick Ankrum to establish Living Song Project – a groundbreaking initiative dedicated to enhancing access to living composers and their compositions through a robust searchable database.

Avery’s vocal coaching work spans a diverse range of opera repertoire, encompassing works from Monteverdi through modern compositions, leading to collaborations with such renowned conductors as Leonard Slatkin, Giancarlo Guerrero, and John Mauceri. Her command of lyric diction across many languages and diverse vocal repertoire have been a guiding presence for hundreds of aspiring and seasoned performers in coachings, diction classes, repertoire classes, guest lectures, and symposiums.

Currently serving as Associate Dean of Academic Affairs at the renowned Florida State University College of Music, Avery occupies a pivotal position in shaping the next generation of musicians. Her academic appointments span a range of esteemed institutions, including Oklahoma University, Indiana University, Austin Peay State University, Castleton State College, and the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam. Her contributions have extended to various prominent summer programs and young artist programs through the years, such as the Middlebury College German for Singers program, Up North Vocal Institute in Michigan, and International Opera Theater in Italy.
