Puerto Rican baritone Ricardo José Rivera has been reviewed by El Nuevo Día as a “warm toned baritone with great stage presence and refined dramatic capabilities.” He has performed throughout United States and Western Europe, including engagements in Italy, Israel and Russia. In Puerto Rico and the United States, he has participated in many performances that range from operatic roles to solo concerts with orchestral accompaniment. 

In Europe, Ricardo starred as Guglielmo in the opera Così fan tutte with the International Vocal Academy of Rome, participated in several recitals with the American Masters’ of Opera Academy in Moscow, Russia, and in several scene and concert presentations with the International Vocal Arts Institute in Tel-Aviv, Israel. In Puerto Rico, he has had repeat engagements at the Performing Arts Center of San Juan and at the University of Puerto Rico Theater. These included singing the Notary in Don Pasquale, Dottore Spinelloccio in Gianni Schicchi, and Don Quixote in Maurice Ravel’s Master Peter’s Puppet Show as part of the 2016 Casals Festival.

In the United States, Ricardo has performed several roles with the Shepherd School of Music Opera Department (where he recently acquired his Master’s Degree) in several of their operatic presentations and scenes concerts. Amongst these: Fiorello in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Starveling in A Midsummer’s Night Dream and as Marco in Gianni Schicchi. He has also participated in several summer vocal festivals in the United States, such as the Aspen Music Festival, where he performed the role of Claudio in Beatrice et Bénédict; the prestigious IVAI program in Tel-Aviv Israel in 2014; and VOICExperience in 2012. Ricardo made a return to Aspen in the summer of 2017 to cover the role of Germont in La Traviata and sing Angel #7 in Luke Bedford’s opera Seven Angels.

In the spring of 2018, Ricardo joins the Ryan Opera Center at the Lyric Opera of Chicago as an ensemble member.
